Dr Kathleen Calleja Grima is a Senior Associate with EMA Advocates. Although she specialises in Criminal Law, this is not exclusive to other areas, most notably, Insurance, Immigration, Employment, Administrative, Disciplinary Proceedings, and Human Rights Law.
Proficient in Maltese, English, and Italian, Dr Calleja Grima graduated Bachelor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2006, followed by the Diploma of Notary Public a year later. During her undergraduate studies, she also followed courses as an Erasmus Scholar at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Rome. She graduated Doctor of Laws in 2009, writing a thesis that investigated ‘Corroboration: Developments in Law and Practice’. She joined EMA Advocates in 2007 as a legal trainee under the tuition of Dr Emmanuel Mallia, eventually advancing to senior associate status with the same law firm. Since her admittance to the bar in 2010, Dr Calleja Grima has been successfully involved in numerous high-profile cases, advising clients both as parte civile and as defence counsel in distinguished jury trials on the island. Most notably, she acted as main spokesperson and legal advisor for the ultimately successful ‘IVA’ Camp during the Maltese Spring Hunting Referendum in 2015.
